Welcome to Norwalk, CT

Founded in 1649, Norwalk was once an agricultural region featuring corn and wheat crops and dairy cows that grazed along today's Calf Pasture Beach. By the late 1800s, the city became known as "Oyster Town" and served as the world's oyster capital thanks to the Norwalk Island chain, which creates an ideal environment for the bivalves. Today, with nearly 90,000 residents, Norwalk is Connecticut's sixth-largest city.
